Well-educated and trained teachers ensure that your child will be in the best hands possible.

Here is your chance to get to know some of our Day Early Learning teachers. This week, we highlight April Despuig.

Which Day Early Learning center do you work at?
Lilly Family Center

What age group do you teach?
I am in a toddler classroom.

How long have you worked at Day Early Learning?
I have been at Day Early Learning since February of 2020.

When did you know you wanted to work with children?
I discovered the joy of working with children when I started working as a speech-language pathologist back home. I have found that children have their special and unique ways of showing you their love and my heart just felt really happy working with kids!

How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to try local coffee shops and restaurants with my husband. I like to travel but also discover new things and experiences in Indy.

What is/was your favorite children’s book?
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.

What was the last moment that caused you to stop and remember why you love teaching and working with children?

There’s so much! I am amazed at the rapid development of toddlers across different areas and their capacity for learning, remembering, and exploring. However, what stands out to me the most is their capacity for loving. Everyday, I am surrounded by “my” toddlers who just give me hugs at random times throughout the day. I would sometimes hear a random “I love you April” or the funniest expression or sassiest remark, that’s what I love the most!

What is your favorite thing about working at Day Early Learning?
I enjoy learning with and from my co-workers!

What other interesting facts do you want us to know about you?
I was born and raised in the Philippines and I have an open water scuba diver certification!
