Ask the Expert: Help your Child Transition to School

Despite the calendar saying it’s only August, the fall 2015-2016 school year is in full swing. As kids head back to school and get back on a routine, remember that it may take a little time for them to fully transition back to the normal school day schedule. Help your child achieve success by following these simple tips: Get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced breakfast every day, and check your child’s backpack every night for important teacher correspondence. Staying in touch with your child’s teacher will allow you to be in the know about your child’s education and any potential issues that may arise. Talk with your child nightly about their experiences at school and encourage them to talk about what they are learning. Foster their learning by continuing projects, lessons, and assignments at home alongside them. Lastly, remember to encourage your child to read 20 minutes every night! Following these simple tips will help your child have a great year at school!
