Federal Building.
What age group do you teach?
I’m the center’s Operations Manager!
How long have you worked at Day Early Learning?
I’ve been here since July 2020.
When did you know you wanted to work with children?
I knew when I started working as a Youth Tree Team Leader for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful in 2017. We always left work with smiles on our faces even though we were working hard every day in the summer heat. I loved watching everyone get excited about getting stronger and gaining new knowledge about the environment and tree identification. They were the first to help me realize I enjoyed working with children. I went on to work with younger kiddos when I was with DCS for a short period of time until I found Day Early Learning, and I’ve loved it here ever since!
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love taking every opportunity I can to spend time with my family. I love reading, watching horror movies, lifting weights, knitting, playing pool, and (on the rare occasion we can find a cat sitter) traveling with my boyfriend.
What is/was your favorite children’s book?
The Phantom Tollbooth is my go-to comfort read, even now.
What was the last moment that caused you to stop and remember why you love teaching and working with children?
I have moments like that every single day! Most recently, a child and I discovered that we share a love of cats, so I showed her the pictures of my two cats that I keep by my desk. Her mom told me that now she’ll sometimes say, “We have to go look at Ms. Heather’s cats before we leave.” I love having those little bonding moments with the kids here.
What is your favorite thing about working at Day Early Learning?
I get to interact with some really wonderful people every day. The families at Federal are always so kind-hearted and fun to talk to, and my coworkers are super supportive and genuinely love their work.
What other interesting facts do you want us to know about you?
A big goal of mine is to get more into powerlifting! I love lifting weights and getting stronger and want to take it up a few notches this year!
