Teacher Spotlight: Katelyn Wichman

Everything we do at Day Early Learning is aimed at nurturing each child’s social, emotional and educational needs. Our ultimate goal is not only to prepare your child for kindergarten but also to inspire a lifelong learning journey. Well-educated and trained teachers ensure that your child will be in the best hands possible.

Here is your chance to get to know some of our Day Early Learning teachers. This week, we highlight Katelyn Wichman.

Which center do you work at?
Federal Building.

What age group do you teach?
I am in the Toddler 1 classroom.

How long have you worked at Day Early Learning?
I have been working at Day Early Learning for four years. I can’t believe it’s been that long!

When did you know you wanted to work with children?
I knew I wanted to work with kids since I was very young. I didn’t realize my love for toddlers, however, until I interviewed in a toddler class. I instantly fell in love.

How do you like to spend your free time?
When I’m not at work, I love to read science fiction and fantasy stories. My husband and I are both movie buffs, and family time is extremely important to me. Plus, I spend at least one day a week with my mom and grandparents.

What is/was your favorite children’s book?
Do I have to choose one? They’re so many great books, like Pete the Cat, The Mitten, There’s a Monster in this Book and Pouch!, just to name a few. If I have to choose one the Raggedy Ann and Andy series will always hold a special place in my heart because my mom used to read them to me.

What was the last moment that caused you to stop and remember why you love teaching and working with children?
The two recent times I can think of is when a child climbed into the snack cart. It caught me by surprise and I couldn’t help but laugh and be impressed. The second is when one of the kids tried to pick up her baby sibling’s car seat. Kids are so funny, sweet and innocent. I am constantly surprised by them, and I hope that never changes.

What is your favorite thing about working at DEL?
The kids, not just in my own room but the kids in the entire center. I love seeing how my old students have grown and changed.

What other interesting facts do you want us to know about you?
I have recently started making hair ties and barrettes out of my old wedding flowers. They’re great stocking stuffers and the kids have seemed to enjoy the ones I have made for myself.
