Here is your chance to get to know some of our Day Early Learning teachers. This week, we highlight LaToya Gregory.

Which Day Early Learning center do you work at?
IU Health.

What age group do you teach?
I am an Assistant Center Director.

How long have you worked at Day Early Learning?
I have been at Day Early Learning for three years.

When did you know you wanted to work with children?
I have always had a strong passion and desire to work with children and families. I knew at a young age that I wanted to help others and impact their lives. I am a very compassionate and caring person. I am pretty easy going and have found that people are able to trust me easily. This may be because they find I am relatable, helpful and I don’t judge anyone. I guess it’s fair to say that I have always known I wanted to work with children but I was not quite certain in what capacity. I am grateful to have found Day Early Learning. I really enjoy being a part of the School Leadership team. The work of a school leader is far from linear in my opinion. Each day brings a new consistency of a variety of tasks that must get done. I enjoy wearing multiple hats at once. My days are always exciting and I get to illuminate the same talents that one once saw in me into others in this role.

How do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy relaxing during my free time. I try to take mini-vacations and relax with my family and friends. This helps me relieve stress and feel rejuvenated with focus and clarity.

What is/was your favorite children’s book?
My favorite children’s book is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and similar ones from the series. These books are enjoyable and I absolutely love them. I believe they are good books to start learning to read and using while first teaching children how to read.

What was the last moment that caused you to stop and remember why you love teaching and working with children?
The last moment that caused me to stop and remember why I love working with children is every day. I enjoy walking in each of our classrooms and seeing the kiddos eyes light up when they see me. I feel joy and honored as they run towards me to greet me and tell me all about their day.

What is your favorite thing about working at Day Early Learning?
There are so many reasons why I personally enjoy working for Day Early Learning. I have learned that Day Early Learning leadership team values, appreciates and actively seeks input and suggestions from their employees. They listen and have every intention to always make you feel respected as an employee. Day Early Learning recognizes employees and their great achievements. And most importantly, Day Early Learning creates a sense of belonging and fosters and promotes employee’s personal development within their careers.

What other interesting facts do you want us to know about you?
I am currently working towards achieving my Masters’s of Education from the University of Southern Indiana. I will also soon earn my National Directors Credential with Aim4Excellence.
