Teacher Spotlight: Madelyn Pence

Everything we do at Day Early Learning is aimed at nurturing each child’s social, emotional and educational needs. Our ultimate goal is not only to prepare your child for kindergarten, but also to inspire a lifelong learning journey. Well-educated and trained teachers ensure that your child will be in the best hands possible.

Here is your chance to get to know some of our Day Early Learning teachers. This week, we highlight Madelyn Pence.

Which Day Early Learning center do you work at?
Center for Infants and Toddlers.

What age group do you teach?
I am in a 1-2.5-year-old classroom.

How long have you worked at Day Early Learning?
I have been at Day Early Learning for about one year.

When did you know you wanted to work with children?

I have known that I wanted to work with children ever since I was a child myself! I always made my family members play school with me and I had to be the teacher every time. I started college as a Criminal Justice major but eventually changed to Education because I knew that I wouldn’t truly be happy unless I was teaching and working with kids.

How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to spend my free time by hanging out with my friends or going back home to see my family! I also love to be outside.

What is/was your favorite children’s book?
My favorite children’s book has to be “The Missing Piece” by Shel Silverstein. I have always loved his books ever since I was a kid.

What was the last moment that caused you to stop and remember why you love teaching and working with children?
The last moment that caused me to stop and remember why I love teaching is actually every morning when I step into my classroom. My kids all run at me with open arms yelling “Maddie!” and give me hugs. To me, that is the most rewarding feeling as an educator. It is such a blessing to have a career where people get excited to see you walk in the door.

What is your favorite thing about working at Day Early Learning?
My favorite thing about working at Day Early Learning besides the kids has to be my coworkers. I’m pretty new to Indianapolis so it has been so awesome to get to know people and make friends through work.

What other interesting facts do you want us to know about you?
I am currently in my senior year at IUPUI and about to obtain my degree in Elementary Education with plans to become a Kindergarten Teacher! Hopefully, I will be able to have some of my current kids in my class one day!
