Assessment

Regularly assessing each child’s growth and development allows teachers to tailor lessons and activities to the needs of each individual child. All Day Early Learning educators use multiple methods to assess each child’s growth and development. Our Tools include Teaching Strategies GOLD, the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA), and classroom and team member observations and assessments. Learn more about each below.

Teaching Strategies GOLD®

Teaching Strategies GOLD®, an authentic, observational assessment system for children from birth through kindergarten, is used at all Day Early Learning locations. The tool blends ongoing observational assessment for all areas of development and learning with performance tasks for selected predictors of school success. Teachers use the data collected to create meaningful learning opportunities based on your child’s developmental needs and personal interests in the areas of literacy and early math.

Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA)

The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment for infants through preschoolers is a behavior rating scale that is completed by parents and/or teachers and identifies the attributes that research has identified as central to resiliency, or the ability to bounce back from challenges or adversity. This tool tracks a child’s growth so that our learning environments can strengthen these skills.

Classroom and Team Member Assessments

In addition to measuring your child’s growth, we regularly assess our learning environments and teaching team members using classroom observation tools to ensure the highest level of teacher-child interactions.
