About our center

At Day Early Learning Federal Building your child will learn and grow in a safe environment. This center has six spacious classrooms, an indoor gross motor area and an outdoor urban playground. Classrooms are designed to provide a fun learning environment and are outfitted with developmentally appropriate learning materials that allow your child to explore and learn.  The center is inspected each year by the State Division of Family and Children’s Services and the State Fire Marshal.

    Sarah Sovanich Center Director

    As center director, Sarah’s focus is on initiatives that establish positive classroom communities and promote successful transitions to Kindergarten. She brings nine years of experience as an early childhood educator, as well as a focus on the importance of social-emotional skill development in early childhood. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a certification as a reading specialist from Purdue University.

    Marlo Allen works as a lead preschool teacher in the classroom and strives to promote a positive learning environment. She plans and implements hands-on activities that develop social skills in the classroom. Marlo holds a degree from Ivy Tech Community College.

    Curriculum

    Day Early Learning centers utilize the Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum that addresses children’s cognitive, language and social-emotional development. This curriculum is aligned with the Indiana Early Learning Foundations, the learning development framework for children from birth through the start of kindergarten. When your child attends Day Early Learning, each day includes experiences that foster creative expression, cognitive development, social and emotional growth, motor skills, and problem-solving skills.     Health & Safety

    Sanitation
    • Our teachers sanitize tables throughout the day in preparation for meals or classroom activities.
    • Classroom toys are disinfected nightly.
    • Toys that are soiled or mouthed by children are immediately taken out of use and put into a tub to be cleaned.
    • Diaper changing areas are sanitized before and after each use.
    • Hand washing for all, including staff, children and parents is practiced and encouraged.
    • The children are taught to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds before and after meals, after toileting, returning to the classroom after outside play or before using the water/sensory table.
    Wellness

    Not all germs can be eliminated and children will experience illness when in a child care environment. When these illnesses occur, per Indiana State Licensing regulations, the directors will inform parents of the illness, symptoms and the incubation period. Extra care is taken to sanitize classroom surfaces, toys, and common use items whenever an illness is confirmed in a classroom.

    To help protect others from the spread of illness, children must be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of a fever reducer before admittance to the facility will be allowed.
    Security

    Day Early Learning centers regulate entry into each center with a security system. A key fob or card is required for entry. Day Early Learning asks that you list anyone who has your permission to pick up your child, as well as those who do not have your permission. Day Early Learning will check emergency cards and ask for ID from anyone unknown to center staff.

    Facility Safety

    All Day Early Learning centers are licensed by the State of Indiana Office of Early Care and Out of School Learning (FSSA). This agency inspects our centers and playgrounds at least annually but can also inspect at random. We also adhere to the guidelines by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for our facilities, grounds, curriculum, teacher education and training and administrative policies. We must also comply with the State Fire Marshall and the local township Fire Marshall for building code and safety. We conduct monthly fire drills, tornado and earthquake drills for our facilities. Day Early Learning has emergency preparedness plans in place to cover a variety of situations that would impact the safety and well-being of our children and staff. Evacuations sites for each center are listed in the enrollment package each parent receives. Our staff receives training in fire safety, pediatric CPR and first aid and universal precautions/blood borne pathogens.

    Nutrition & Wellness

    Meals

    Children at Day Early Learning receive a variety of nutritious meals and snacks throughout their day. We serve breakfast, lunch and two snacks a day at our centers. Our meals are designed to be balanced and include fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains, while limiting the amount of sugars and processed foods. Our menus are approved by a certified nutritionist and meet the Gold Standard from the United States Department of Agriculture for Child Nutrition Programs. Additionally, our culinary staff are Serv-Safe certified to ensure food safety.

    Nutrition Education

    Meal time is about more than just providing the fuel children need for their growing minds and bodies, it’s also a learning opportunity! Teachers include nutritional education in their curriculum so children learn how to make healthy choices. We also focus on teaching table manners, social skills and self-care skills at meal times.

    Physical Wellness

    Physical growth and wellness is a big part of a young child’s day as they are just learning how to use their bodies. Teachers include structured physical activities in their lesson plans to ensure children are on track in developing their fine and gross motor skills. We also provide time twice a day for children to play in an outdoor play environment. Children are required to spend at least 60 minutes outside playing each day, 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon. If the weather is poor (raining or snowing excessively, below 24 degrees with wind chill or above 90 degrees with heat index) they will have time for physical activity indoors.

    Infant Nutrition

    At Day Early Learning we support breastfed and formula-fed babies and follow you and your physician’s wishes when it comes to your baby’s individual nutritional needs. We provide infant formula and baby food and encourage breastfeeding moms to come in to nurse as often as they wish or provide pumped breast milk.

    Special Dietary Needs

    If your child has specific dietary needs or restrictions, we will work with you to create a healthy meal plan for your child. Please provide the center director with a signed note from your physician (for health dietary restrictions) or a note from you (for religious dietary restrictions) stating restrictions so that appropriate arrangements may be made to accommodate your child. Both licensing and the Federal Food Program require our children to be served meals and snacks that are prepared in our kitchen or catered by a licensed vendor. Day Early Learning cannot serve sack lunches or food items brought in by parents.

    Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children

    Day Early Learning Federal Building is fully accredited* by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), a national, voluntary, professionally-sponsored accreditation organization, and the world’s largest organization of early childhood professionals. While NAEYC accreditors examine the total program, they place special emphasis on the quality of interaction between staff and children, as well as the developmental appropriateness of curriculum. To earn accreditation, programs must meet the 10 NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards during a thorough on-site visit from assessors who observe in classrooms, and review policies and procedure documentation. These visits take place every five years to renew the accreditation status, as well as random unannounced visits in between renewals.

    Rated a Level 4 Paths to Quality Provider

    Day Early Learning is also a Level 4 child care provider, the highest rated, according to Indiana’s Paths To QUALITY* rating system for early care and education programs. That means Day Early Learning has demonstrated a commitment to the highest level of professionalism in quality early care and education.

    Parent Communication

    At Day Early Learning parents are our most valued partners. In addition to encouraging frequent and consistent visits to the classroom, we work with parents to create a communication system that is informative and invites positive relationship building. Across all Day Early Learning centers, technology is leveraged to support continual communications. We do this through the use of the online platform LifeCubby, which parents can access online from a computer or phone.

    • Progress and successes related to individualized child development plans
    • Pictures and videos of learning and play activities reflective of the Creative Curriculum that is used throughout Day Early Learning centers
    • Information related to lesson plans, individual observations, and assessments
    • Reports of daily activities such as naps, meals and diaper changes
    LifeCubby Setup & Access

    As the information portal, LifeCubby provides an option for parents to invite other family members to receive updates on the growth that happens through Cubby Pals.

    Daily Interactions

    Daily parent communication and interactions also take place during drop off and pick up as Day Early Learning requires that the child is walked to the room and that each parent is greeted by the teacher. These small touch points provide the opportunity for both parents and teachers to exchange information pertinent to the child’s development and daily needs.

    Day Early Learning centers conduct bi-annual parent-teacher conferences, produce a monthly newsletter, host parent meetings and provide opportunities for parents to lead projects and programs at their center.

    Enrichment Programs

    In addition to our daily classroom curriculum and activities, we partner with outside organizations that provide extracurricular activities for the children during the day at our centers. These programs are not included in your weekly fee, but are a voluntary add-on activity for your child.

    Happy Feet

    Happy Feet uses nursery rhymes, songs, stories and fun games with a soccer ball to maximize motor skill development. Two-and-three year-olds love acting out nursery rhymes and songs. Four-and-five-year-olds have a blast with stories and fun games. Happy Feet classes are 30 minutes in length (National Association for Sports & Physical Education recommendation).

    Crouching Tigers

    Crouching Tigers is a fitness and martial arts program offering a curriculum devoted to the physical, emotional, and social development of children. The weekly activities are designed to improve balance, coordination, and other sensory stimuli while reinforcing great social skills in a group environment. Children two years and up will enjoy kicking and punching while learning awareness techniques, traditional martial arts, fitness, and life skills.

    Rapunzel's Gymnastics

    Many of the benefits of gymnastics are not related to learning gymnastics skills, but more important developmental areas that will help your child become a better student and young adult. Some of the benefits of gymnastics participation are: self confidence, coordination, hard work ethic, flexibility, social skills, discipline, fitness, overcoming fears, learning to perform in front of people, determination, and strength development.

    Tuition & Rates

    As a nonprofit, our goal is to provide high-quality, accredited early childhood care and education at a price all families can afford. The prices listed below reflect our full fee. Many families qualify for discounts or financial aid. Please check to see if you qualify.

    *Tuition, fees, financial assistance and policies are reviewed on a regular basis and are subject to change.
    Payment Policies

    There is a one-time enrollment fee of $30. Tuition is due on the Friday prior to the week of service. Your weekly fee remains the same regardless of your child’s attendance, illness, observed holidays and emergency closings with the exception of approved vacation.     Discounts

    There is a $10 weekly discount if you are a corporate partner: federal, Indiana state government, IU Health, Phalen Leadership Academy or Park 100 employee. If you have more than one child enrolled at Day Early Learning, you also qualify for a $10 weekly discount.

    Financial Aid Options

    We accept many different financial aid options, including CCDF vouchers (Child Care Development Fund), On My Way Pre-K, the Indy Preschool Program and military subsidies. We also offer direct tuition assistance for eligible families (see below for our Tuition Assistance Program eligibility ranges).
